Selecting Your Bridal Veil
Wedding bells will be ringing and you can just imagine how dapper your man will look in his tuxedo. You have your gown, the flowers and the veil. The veil, oh, you haven’t decided yet? Well, here are some tips that might help you in selecting your bridal veil.
For such a lightweight item, selecting the right bridal veil can be pretty complicated. Many factors need to be considered, such as your height, the kind of wedding and your wedding theme and colors.
There are two types of veils;
- One-tier veils are the simple ones. They do not have a blusher (shoulder length veil that is worn over the face) and are perfect for brides who want a minimal, less formal but chic look. One-tier veils work well with most wedding gowns and provide a subtle look of elegance. The one-tier veil accentuate an up-do hairstyle and is worn at the back of the head.
- A two-tier veil suits nearly all dresses but typically works better with a semi-formal or formal gown because of the blusher. A two-tier veil beautifully frames the face and works well with most hairstyles.
Also, there are many lengths and types of wedding and bridal veils to choose from.
- An elbow length bridal veil is typically 30” long. This is not recommended to be used with gowns that have trains. It complements a gown with a full skirt and ends up detailing around the waist of the gown.
- A fingertip length wedding veil falls right at the fingertips of the bride if her hands are on the side.
- And lastly, a marvelous cathedral veil which is of floor length. These are only worn on formal weddings. It will extend on the floor about six inches past the gown’s trail and provides a visually dramatic look.
Now, for the color. If your gown is “white” then the white veil with a bright color is the one you’ll need. If your gown is off white, then a diamond white veil will suit you best. It is usually made for silk gowns. Ivory works best for, well, ivory gowns. It has the light shade of ivory and those subtle yellow undertones. Champagne colored veils matches well with champagne or dark ivory dresses. It has the champagne color with a slight brown overtone.
Regardless of which type of bridal veil you select, the veil should be secured. You also want to make sure the veil is not ‘fighting’ with the other details of the gown. Mixing wedding veils and bridal tiaras also makes you look like a princess bride. It is best for formal weddings or a royalty wedding theme.
With discount bridal veils, it is still best to choose what’s with quality and not the higher savings. You’re only going to be married once and it should not be a disaster. Securing yourself with quality-made veils would make this a wonderful event for you and every one invited in your wedding. You probably won’t find discount veils at a bridal boutique. Check eBay for low prices and Etsy for unique wedding veils.
With everything listed above, there is also one thing to consider and perhaps the very important tip I’m giving a bride. Wear what you want to wear and not what you have to wear. You will always look better in a gown that you’ve chosen for your own because you like it, not because other people like it. If it makes you feel comfortable, you will be as stunning as ever.
